Day 1 - Friday, June 14 - Woodstock to Newark

We prefer using the Newark airport as it is easier to drive to than JFK. We usually use the SNAP off-airport parking which is convenient and reasonably priced but for a 15 day trip, it costs more to park than to rent from Hertz (I still get the IBM corporate discount) to drive down and back. Hertz is convenient at Newark because the monorail goes directly from the car rental facility to the different terminals.

This is our bright red Cadillac rental car for the trip down.

No, we don't generally rent high-end cars. I actually reserved an economy compact car. Hertz in Kingston didn't have any economy compact cars available and as a Hertz "Gold" member, I got a free upgrade to this car. It is the first time I have driven a Cadillac. It is a nice car but doesn't even have some of the safety feature of our Subaru Forester like blind-spot notification and adaptive cruise control. I spent about 5 minutes looking for the gas tank release before realizing that one just pushed on the gas fill cover like the "old" days.

The trip down wasn't very eventful except for heavy traffic on the Garden State Parkway before getting off for Newark. We ended up touring the airport before finally finding the rental car return.
